Office of Student Affairs and Guidance Office Hold Leadership Training Seminar

With the theme, “Developing a Generation of Leaders Imbued with Angelicum’s Core Values of Justice, Charity, and Fortitude”, the Office of Student Affairs, in coordination with the Guidance Department, conducted a Leadership Training Seminar last February 15, 2018, Thursday, at the Blessed Jordan of Saxony Multipurpose Hall. The participants for the said event were the Student Council officers from the Junior and Senior High School, College, and Home Study Program. The program began at around 8:00 in the morning and ended at around 3:30 in the afternoon. Two speakers were invited to talk about leadership and relating it to the Angelicum core values of Justice, Charity, and Fortitude.

 

The participants were welcomed by Mrs. Wednesdee-Perpetual A. Acasio, Head of the Guidance Department. The first session for the seminar was handled by Mr. Jaime L. Angeles Jr., a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas with a degree in Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Social Studies. He is currently working as a Social Studies teacher, Assistant Head for Student’s Activities, and Grade 7 Level Coordinator at the Don Bosco Technical College. Mr. Angeles is also an active leader at the St. Dominic Savio Parish. He began his talk on discussing the ten (10) common misconceptions about leadership. Thereafter, he discussed the four (4) cardinal virtues of St. Thomas Aquinas namely Prudence, Justice, Fortitude, and Temperance and the roles they play in lieu of leadership. Mr. Angeles was awarded with certificate by Mrs. Wednesdee-Perpetual A. Acasio.

The second session was handled by Mr. Joaquin Paguia. He graduated primary and secondary studies here at Angelicum College. He is currently studying at the University of the Philippines Los Baños with an undergraduate degree on Food Technology. He had an opportunity as an exchange student at University of Tsukuba, Japan last Spring Semester. He is one of the pioneers in the Re-entry Education Agenda for the Poor- People United Because of Love, Initiative, and Concern (REAPUBLIC) of Angelicum College last 2014. At present, he is the Project Committee Head and Volunteer Tutor at the same organization. Mr. Paguia explained the virtue Charity and expounded its three (3) different definitions through discussing the current issues in the Philippines and the importance of being socially aware and active. He also showed a video presentation on what REAP is all about such as its missions and goals to encourage students to volunteer to this organization. The second session ended at around 3:15 in the afternoon. Mr. Paguia was awarded with certificate by Mr. Jose Pallarca, Coordinator of the Office of Student Affairs. Mr. Pallarca also gave the closing remarks to the Student Council officers. The Leadership Training Seminar ended after the singing of the UST Hymn.
