As part of the Outcomes Based Education in the Collegiate Department, students taking Business Implementation 2 and Business Opportunities attended a classroom seminar entitled “Business Opportunities in the Home”.  Ms. Mari Paz A. Torres was invited as resource speaker who shared her experiences as well as tips for future entrepreneurs.  The highlights of her talk included: doing research, being creative not only with the products but also with packaging and labels, how to do costing, tips on where to buy raw materials, and the importance of saving.

Ms. Torres, who is a full-time homemaker, has been engaged in a home-based business called UnnieZeth since 2015.  Starting with the extra beads, fabrics, wires, and chains that her eldest daughter used in school, she started making napkin accessories for the house.  Upon her friends’ prodding, she started accepting orders.  Now her business includes pouches, keychains, door charms, wine glass rings, bead bookmarks, and table cloths, among others.  These are all made by hand.

Spearheaded by their professor in Business, Ms. Maria Rita Pilar V. Ong, the classroom seminar was held last February 27, 2018 at the Mock Demo Room of the Blessed Jordan of Saxony Building.
