UST Angelicum College held its annual Employees’ Retreat last July 25 – 27, 2018 at the Sta. Catalina Spirituality Center in Baguio City. With a total of 142 employees composed of teachers, non- teaching staff and priest-administrators as attendees, the retreat was facilitated by the ever joyful preacher, Rev. Fr. Enrico Gonzales of the Oder of Preachers.

The theme of this year’s retreat, The Role of the Catholic Teachers in the Evangelizing Mission of the School, is very timely as the call of the Catholic Church for all its faithful, including those working in schools, is  to share in the evangelizing mission of the Church through witnessing.

During his talk, Fr. Enrico stressed that the role of teachers and the support staff in the school must not only be limited to imparting knowledge of the different concepts and theories to the learners, or just deliver the task assigned to them. Instead, he encouraged the employees to consider their work as a form of preaching. He further stressed that we share the mission, not only of the school but also of the Catholic Church, to evangelize especially to the youth. However, Fr. Enrico stressed that evangelization becomes more effective when we are willing to journey with our learners in their daily experiences and struggles, and make them feel that God journeys with them through our presence and genuine concern.

The culmination of the UST Angelicum retreat was the celebration of the Thanksgiving Mass in the National Shrine of Our Lady of Manaoag, where the community sought the intercession of the Blessed Mother of God.
