The Philippine Conference on New Evangelization or PCNE, which was introduced by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle five years ago, has again brought both the religious and the lay partners of the Church in its evangelizing mission.

With the theme “Moved with Compassion: Feed the Multitude,” this year’s conference was again held at the University of Santo Tomas and was attended by more than two thousand delegates all over the country.

During his talk at the opening ceremonies of this year’s conference, Cardinal Tagle called on the religious to always be in solidarity with their ‘neighbor’, and to make themselves always available at the service of the poor and the marginalized. He emphasized the need for priests and nuns to be where the people are, to walk with them in their life’s journey and to avoid confining themselves in the convent or the seminary. The Cardinal also stressed that the religious must learn from the holiness of the ordinary people, whose faith and goodness shine amidst the painful and challenging experiences in life. In all the sessions during the plenary talks, the one resounding message that every resource speaker underscored was the need for the new kind of evangelization that comes from authentic witnessing, the kind of witnessing that reflects the unwavering faith in God, and God’s steadfast love and concern for humanity.
