The display of love and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary was again witnessed among the youth volunteers of UST Angelicum as they spent one whole night in remembrance of the Queen of the Holy Rosary of La Naval. In celebration of the Marian Month, the Campus Ministry and the Christian Living Education (CLE) departments spearheaded the 4th Marian Youth Vigil held last October 12-13, 2018. The BEC Youth Volunteers Group, Student Catholic Action group, DOMNET Youth, Altar Servers’ Group, and the children of OFWs, who are all under the supervision of the Office of the Religious Affairs and of the CLE Department, shared a night of prayer, reflection, and bonding moments with their friends. The alumni volunteers facilitated the different activities this year, which aimed at increasing the love and fidelity of the learners to the Blessed Mother of God, and in deepening their appreciation of her role in their lives by taking Mary as their model of holiness and humility.

The vigil gathered the 132 volunteers in praying the holy rosary, which kicked off the start of the overnight activity. After a short orientation given by Mrs. Irene Gopez, the coordinator of the Campus Ministry, the volunteers enjoyed the dinner with their friends and the energizer and games provided by the BEC Youth volunteers. The presence of the school priests who visited the learners during the vigil made the volunteers feel important and inspired in continuing the service they give as a way of giving back not only to God and to Mama Mary, but also to the school.

One of the highlights of the vigil was the talk given by the guest preacher, Rev. Jayson Gonzales, O.P., who highlighted the role and the sacrifices of a mother to her child, and relating his talk to the sacrifices of the Virgin Mary in giving birth to Jesus. The participants were so attentive with the talk of Rev. Jayson and got hooked on his ‘hugot’ lines in highlighting his message.  This was followed by the praise and worship activity which was led by our guest worship leader, Bro. Rommel Reyes of Lingkod ng Panginoon Ministry. The participants were still wide awake at midnight while listening to Bro. Rommel because of his style of injecting humor in preaching.

The following morning, all the youth volunteers celebrated the 6:00 a.m. Mass at the Sto. Domingo Church, which was presided by Rev. Fr. Ramon Salibay, O.P. and Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Bautista, O.P. as his concelebrant.
