International Relations & Linkages

Advancing UST Angelicum College’s global engagement — building partnerships, cross-cultural learning, and world-class opportunities founded on academic excellence and core values.

Why It Matters

Rationale

The International Relations and Linkages agenda integrates and advances UST Angelicum College’s initiatives of internationalization in support of its learners, facilitators, students, faculty members, the wider school community, and its various stakeholders. It recognizes the College’s overall academic mandate and progressive plan, carried out as part of the institution’s commitment to building global engagement founded on academic excellence and core values.

This international engagement, vital to the College’s academic mission, supports learners’ educational development, personal growth, and professional competitiveness. It is equally essential for faculty development, research advancement, and institutional relevance. Finally, it stands as an integral part of UST Angelicum College’s Vision, Mission, and educational philosophy.

Creative Disruption & Sustainable Co-Creation

The Sustainable & Creative Learning Process

An international relations and linkages initiative fosters a special kind of learning, in which cross-cultural engagement produces a process of creative disruption and sustainable co-creation. This process involves a wider and deeper exposure to a new worldview and design thinking that reveals new meaning-making, unraveling the distinctiveness and relevance of our own values, framing assumptions, and becoming part of other people’s heritage.

International engagement and multicultural education foster a transformative learning experience. Through creative disruption and sustainable co-creation, individuals gain the ability to live and interact through another culture’s language, values, and worldview.

Such experiences cultivate empathy, respect, and personal growth by embracing cultural differences. They also enhance education by:

Improving language skills
Providing real-world experience
Strengthening faculty research
Increasing students’ employability
What We Aim For

Objectives of the Initiative

An international engagement, by default, should:

  1. Prepare learners for the exciting world of cross-cultural engagement and far-reaching connections;
  2. Prepare higher education students for the globalized workforce that rewards those with a command of multiple languages and demands cross-cultural savvy and international awareness;
  3. Make UST Angelicum College’s education environment a more multilingual, diverse, tolerant, and inclusive, lifelong learning community;
  4. Enable local learners and students to have an international experience even while based in the Philippines by interacting meaningfully with multicultural counterparts;
  5. Encourage and support faculty engagement and joint activities with global partners;
  6. Stimulate and reward curiosity, instilling a lifelong passion for discovery and lifelong learning at the heart of a multi-faceted education;
  7. Teach vital 21st-century global citizenship skills by:
    • Appreciating that the world and its challenges are complex but manageable when one is aware of the value of international friendship, neighborhood, and community; and
    • Recognizing that the multiplicity of cultures, religions, or ideologies is not a threat, but an asset in a world that requires diverse perspectives to address complex challenges;
  8. Pursue the challenges of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of:
    • Quality education; and
    • Partnership for goals;
  9. Support the educational mission to develop globally competitive individuals through equal opportunities for all students;
  10. Maintain high academic standards by ensuring that the quality and rigor of credits earned through international learning initiatives equal or exceed those offered on the home campus, and include hands-on, experiential learning opportunities.
